Valerie L Sharpe, OD FAAO

Outgoing and cheerful Dr. Sharpe’s sensitive approach helps her patients relax and feel at ease. Dr. Sharpe’s exploration of the region began in 2004 when she moved to the four corners to work on the Navajo reservation. She quickly found the beloved box canyon and began spending more and more time in Telluride. In 2010, Dr. Sharpe and her family moved to town. She began seeing patients at Alpine Eyecare & Eyewear in 2012 and bought the practice in 2013. She has extended her involvement in the community with service as a board member of Mountain Sprouts Preschool. When she is not enjoying her patients and the beautiful activities Telluride has to offer, Dr. Sharpe is busy with her three young children and husband. Dr. Sharpe feels truly blessed to love her career and practice in such a beautiful community.

Dr. Sharpe received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Indiana University School of Optometry. Then, she completed a residency at the Veteran’s hospital in Portland, Oregon and continued on as consultant faculty. Dr. Sharpe also worked in a speciality eye surgery practice in Olympia, Washington. She then moved to the four corners region to join the Chinle Hospital Medical Staff in Chinle, Arizona were she served as a staff optometrist working and living on the Navajo reservation for eight years. She continues her work on the reservation as a consultant medical staff where she enjoys working with residents as well as the technical side of health IT management. Dr. Sharpe continues to demonstrate exceptional community service through her involvement with over a dozen medical eyecare missions in Latin America. She is committed to serving within her profession and holds various national leadership roles as a national board examiner, national advisory group member for the Indian Health Service, and she sits on the admissions committee for the American Academy of Optometry. Dr. Sharpe continues to love teaching and training her future colleagues, she holds Adjunct Clinical Professor positions at the Pacific University College of Optometry, the Southern California College of Optometry and The Ohio State University. Dr. Sharpe is also an invited national lecturer. She enjoys inspiring other practitioners through her experience, most recently she has lectured on ocular trauma, uveitis, eyecare in the emergency department, and electronic health record implementation.

Kimberly S Parr, OD

Positive, soft-spoken and relaxed Dr. Parr is a caring professional. Originally from Kentucky, she has lived in the Cortez for the past 13 years. Dr. Parr attended Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green KY, and then Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN, graduating Cum Laude. She then completed a residency in primary care optometry at Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock, NM. Dr. Parr owned and operated Cortez Vision and Alpine Eyecare for 11 years. She now works part-time in both offices. In addition, she provides eyecare at the Ute Mountain tribal clinic mainly working with diabetics. Dr. Parr’s other clinical interests include dry eye syndrome, children’s vision, and hard to fit and specialty contact lenses.

She is active with For Pets’ Sake Humane Society. She enjoys skiing, hiking, camping, and enjoying the Four Corners with her husband and daughter.
